Mid-Autumn Festival, which is held on the 15-8 of lunar year, is a traditional festival in many Asian countries. The festival is very exciting with lanterns, dragon dance, mooncakes and legend about the Chang'e, a beautiful moon goddess... Today I will make a step by step about the Chang'e and Moon Rabbit to welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival UwU.

Step 1: Prepare a sketch/lineart so we can begin painting =))) The paper must be thick enough for watercolor, here I used the canson 1557. First I sketched it on a plain paper, then used a LED lighting board to trace the picture into watercolor-paper, that's how I have a clean sketch like this =)))

Step 2: Base with a layer of color. I usually use the skin color to base because the skin is the first thing I paint. Moreover, the principle of watercolor is to paint from light to dark, so I used the lightest color to base. One more reason, because the watercolor paper is a bit glued, I have to apply the base to make it easier to paint =))

Step 3: Use peach orange color (which is orange but a little bit red) to paint the cheeks, blend around for even uwu

Step 4: Shade the hair and neck with purple, then use a little bit blue to blend.

Step 5: Base the hair, here I use the ultra marine blue + velvet pink to base the hair, to avoid the "one color" which looks a bit boring =)))

Step 6: Paint the clothes. The Chang'e is often illustrated in Eastern classical costume so I will draw the same style to match the theme and character.

Step 7: Shade the dress folds + hair. The shading is usually based on artist's experience, so I don't have much to show in this step =))) The last step is painting the background, please don't forget to add some lanterns to highlight the picture uwu.

Tada, that's it :> Wishing everyone a happy, warm and meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival~
